First, I want to thank everyone who participated in and supported BevTech 2019 in Charlotte. I am happy to say that this year’s conference was a big success and had a record high attendance! This reinforces the fact that ISBT and BevTech continue to be the go-to society for the beverage industry, the place to get trusted information, and the best way to build your network of industry-leading professionals.
We had an incredible line-up of speakers throughout the 3-day conference. Each day included top-class Keynote, Industry Spotlight, ISBT Spotlight, and technical presentations. We hope that they inspired you and enabled you to unlock new opportunities for you and your organizations.
A special thank you to our Technical Committees for the outstanding work they continue to do every day. Their year of planning culminated in the committee meetings at BevTech, which get better every year. If you are not already involved in a Technical Committee, then I urge you to do so. Feel free to reach out to me directly, and I will help get you connected.
One of my highlights was listening to the heart-warming testimonial of one of our ISBT scholars, Jacalyn Barry. She shared her experiences so far in the industry and explained how ISBT has played a major role in supporting her journey. This year we announced the new ISBT Emeritus Scholarship which is available to ISBT members or family members that are interested in applying for a scholarship. Check out the ISBT website for further details.
In response to requests from our membership for more social interaction during BevTech, we introduced a number of new social networking opportunities. This included a memorable Tuesday night off-site event, a bottler 1-day package networking lunch, and we had assigned seating at the awards luncheon. We look forward to hearing everyone’s valuable feedback on these changes – we can only improve when we know the changes we make address your needs and expectations.
Congratulations to Johannes Angres, Greg Fisher, Lothar Brauer, and all members of the Packaging Technology Technical Committee for winning the much-coveted Best Technical Committee Award. Congratulations also to our new board members Marcio Amazonas, Johannes Angres, and Philip Thonhauser who were elected by the membership.
Looking ahead to BevTech 2020 in San Diego, the west coast is leading a growing craft beverage industry, bringing new opportunities for knowledge sharing. I can’t wait!
