BevTech 2019- Activities

Offered By International Society of Beverage Technologists (ISBT)

Jim Barker, 2nd Vice President

The 2019 fishing trip is one for the record books. We made the “morning bite” at Lake Norman with Captain Gus. There were 6 of us fishing, and everyone caught plenty of nice bass. Total catch for the day was over 30 fish. The highlight of the trip was watching an Osprey father catch breakfast fish for his nesting young. Bob Sparks caught the first fish of the day on his second cast. Bill Kennedy led the pack by working his top water bait and reeling in 10 fish. Dinah Diaz impressed us all with the best bass kiss of the day. Largest fish of the day was caught by Jim Barker. Cliff Vaughn learned to become the Top Water Pro by closing his eyes. To quote Captain Gus, “Fishing open water bass with top water is the way to fish Lake Norman.”

Sal Calandra, 1st Vice President

Rocky River Golf Club hosted the 2019 ISBT golf outing. We had 20 participants play a challenging course that was in excellent condition. Elizabeth McLeod swept the women’s competitions with the longest drive and a beautiful shot to “really, really close” for the closest to the pin contest. Ivan Garneau captured the men’s closest to the pin and John McGroarty won both the putting contest and the longest drive. The winning team for the event consisted of Jimmy Hassler, Rick Papworth, Bob Yeoman, and Sal Calandra. All the teams played well and had fun during this beautiful day in Concord, North Carolina.
